Become A Seed Saver

There is a growing movement worldwide to preserve the genetic diversity of garden plants. By growing, saving, and handing down heirloom seeds, you become a steward of our diverse and fragile garden heritage. Find out more about seed saving.

Where to Purchase Heirloom Seeds and Learn More About Seed Saving
You can purchase heirloom seeds from the most extensive seed savers network in the world: the Seed Savers Exchange (SSE) based in Decorah, Iowa. Seed Savers Exchange is a non-profit organization that saves and shares the heirloom seeds of our garden heritage.

To purchase seeds and learn more, visit Farm & Food Project website or the Seed Savers Exchange website.

You can also purchase heirloom seeds through a variety of other seed companies and suppliers. Simply do an Internet search for “heirloom seeds.” Many of these companies allow you to order the seeds on-line.

Where to Purchase Heirloom Vegetables
If you’re curious about eating heirloom vegetables, but simply cannot grow them yourself, you can sample them at local farmers’ markets in season. There are thousands of such markets in the United States. Greengrocers and organic markets carrying heirlooms are becoming more common and many restaurants now feature heirloom and organic produce prominently on their menus.
